How to start the week off right

‘Monday has been cancelled, go back to sleep.’ The one thing we all would like to hear the moment we wake up on Monday. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen.

You had a great weekend and before you know it it’s Monday morning, your alarm clock goes off and you drag yourself out of bed to get back to the grind. Getting over that Monday morning hurdle can be a pain, but it has to be done.

Monday is the moment to start your week fresh and there are several little tricks that can make your Monday a great start of the week.

Schedule your to-dos for the week
Don’t wait till Monday morning to think about what you are going to do this week. Make a weekly to-do list on Sunday evening when it is quiet and you have time to think and concentrate. Make a weekly list instead of a daily one. As you most likely won’t get everything done in one day and you can divide the workload. So instead of arriving in the office and trying to write down a plan while already being bombarded by other tasks or meetings, you already have plan and can crack on. A benefit of planning ahead is that you will sleep better as well, because you know what the plan is first thing in the morning. Planning ahead also gives you more time to get into your morning routine and eases you into the week.

Create a routine
Having a hard time waking up? Try to get up at the same time every day and don’t snooze away. Yes, those few extra minutes in bed are divine but also make you rush into work. There’s plenty of evidence that shows that getting up a little earlier instead of snoozing away benefits your mental and physical wellness.

Set a weekly goal
Spend a few minutes writing down a personal goal for the week. This doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be going to the gym, reading a book or watching that documentary you wanted to watch for ages. Doing this will motivate you during your busy working week to also pursue personal interests that you enjoy doing outside of work.

No motivation?
Having trouble to start of your week? Sometimes we just need to read something in black and white to get out of our weekend slump and get mentally pumped up for the week ahead. It might sound cheesy but some good motivational quotes or an inspirational speech can boost you to get over that Monday Blues.

Exercise
This is a tough one, but really makes a difference! A work out on a Monday motivates to exercise more consistently throughout the week. Exercise also clears the head and gives you energy that you will need to get through the week. Don’t forget to put exercise on your to-do list as you are more likely to actually go when you scheduled it.
